1313 is Saturday, April 14 in San Antonio!

As we just updated, Deathrock Disko is happening Friday, April 13.

On Saturday, April 14, 2012, our friends at 1313 in San Antonio will be throwing their shindig again at the Thirsty Camel in Olmos Park. DJ Malediction and DJ detra Munster. No cover, 21+, 10PM-2AM. Here is the flyer:

TONIGHT, Friday, April 6, at Swan Dive they're having Exquisite Corpse, with an Alien Sex Fiend theme. $5 if you are dressed for the night, $7 if you are not. The Facebook even page for this is here.

Also, Ely/DJ Malediction and me (Oliver/Death Church) are working on http://www.deathrocktexas.com. Be sure to stay tuned, although the site right now is under heavy construction.

So, what's up with the No Doves folks, you ask?

Of course, the next No Doves is Feb 15th in Austin. As always, it's the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of every month. That means the one after February 15th will be March 7th, 2012. More on this later.

No Doves' own DJ Damage Done and DJ Straylight are doing a weekly, free night at Chain Drive called "Crash." It's an 80s night. And it's every Tuesday night. That means it's - TONIGHT! No cover, 10PM-2AM.

Secondly, our friends in San Antonio are doing their monthly 1313 deathrock night this Saturday, February 11, 2012. DJs Malediction and Munster, both of whom have guested at No Doves Fly Here, will be playing deathrock, postpunk, and gothic rock. It's free, 10PM-2AM-ish at the Thirsty Camel in the Olmos Park area of San Antonio.

No Doves' DJ Death Church has been doing a weekly, one hour neofolk/martial industrial podcast for just over a month now. It's called Eigengrau, and the Facebook page is here, while the website, Eigengrau93.com, is here.

No Doves Interview with DJ Ely Bat/Malediction

This is part of a small series of interviews we're doing with DJs we consider to be important dark punk/deathrock/dark postpunk DJs. See our previous interview with DJ Johnny Bubonic (of the belated Funeral Drive in Dallas -- the weekly (!) deathrock night that ran from about 2001 'til 2004 in DFW), for example.

NO DOVES FLY HERE: As far we are concerned, you are currently THE deathrock/dark postpunk DJ in Texas, bar none. You and DJ Munster bring it. I mean, you could be playing any type of music in the world as a DJ, like stuff that "packs the dance floor" in the most cynical and moneymaking way, i.e. dance-y stuff like Ke$ha -- or bad EBM, like Spock, bands and music that people and Djs at other clubs relentlessly try to promote and foist on people as being what they need to understand is great. So, in spite of that, why do you love and choose to play deathrock and dark postpunk, regardless of this?


ELY MALEDICTION: I grew up on metal and punk as a kid and quickly latched on to stuff like Alice Cooper, Black Sabbath, Misfits, Sex Pistols, and the Stooges. For me Deathrock has the dark element of some of the groups I loved as a kid, and it brings with it the kick in the teeth of punk rock. 

Deathrock in Central TX for the weekend of Jan 13th-Jan 14th, 2012

Friday night, January 13th, 2012 - Deathrock Disko in Austin! (Exquisite Corpse is also happening down the street at Swan Dive; event details here.) We've posted about January's Deathrock Disko here, here, and here, and also on our own Facebook page. As Deathrock Disko has traditionally happened only twice per year, it's worth another post. The music is always great, without exception, and we are supporters of the event.

The next day, Saturday, January 14th, in San Antonio at the Thirsty Camel, DJs Malediction and Munster will put on the once-per-month 1313 deathrock event night. No cover, 9:30-ish PM 'til 2AM. We posted about this before, too -- here.

January 13, 2012 in Austin: Deathrock Disko, Exquisite Corpse, and...

We posted about it here once before, but here it is again: Deathrock Disko will be happening in Austin on January 13, 2012, with DJs Malediction and None! The Facebook event/RSVP page is here. 9:30 PM 'til...? 21 and up, $5; under 21, $7. If you have an Exquisite Corpse stamp (see below), you get in for $3.

The same night, a few blocks away at Swan Dive, Exquisite Corpse: Vote for the Goat - A Capricornian Celebration is also happening. They're advertising "old school goth - new wave - witch house - dance party" at the event page. It's the one year anniversary of Exquisite Corpse: $5 for folks dressed up, $7 for folks not dressed up, and $3 for those with a Deathrock Disko hand stamp.


Coincidentally, in San Antonio on yet again this same night -- Friday the 13th, that is -- Dark Entries is also celebrating their one year anniversary at Korova with DJ Detra Munster, who has guested at No Doves before. (I can't find the event page, but if someone sends it, I'll post more info.)


The next day -- January 14, 2012 -- San Antonio's 1313 monthly deathrock commences with both DJs Malediction and DJ Munster. No cover, 21 and up, 10PM -2AM at the Thirsty Camel in SATX.

Deathrock Disko announced in Austin!

Deathrock Disko has been announced for Friday the 13th in January, 2012, at Elysium.

And TONIGHT in San Antonio is 1313 with DJs Ely Bat and Detra Munster.

And December 21 (on the 3rd Wednesday of every month, as always) will be No Doves Fly Here, in Austin, TX. No cover. 21+ 10PM - 2AM.

Texas deathrock events in December

We've got at least three here, in San Antonio, Austin, and Houston, respectively.

In San Antonio, on Saturday, December 10 at the Thirsty Camel, DJs Ely Malediction and Detra Munster are again bringing you 1313!

On Sunday, December 4, Kris Prudhomme is organizing "The Catacombs: A night of Deathrock and Goth." The Facebook event/RSVP page is here. It's from 9:30 PM to 2 AM at Dean's in Houston, at 316 Main St, Houston, TX 77002 featuring DJ Hex and DJ Franki Fiend and live bands, Freakouts and Comatose and Half Retarded.

And, as always, the third Wednesday of every month, No Doves Fly Here, featuring DJ Damage Done and potentially a guest DJ this month (stay tuned), will be free, in Austin at Chain Drive, 21 and up,  from 10 PM until 2 AM, playing raw deathrock, goth-punk, and dark postpunk.

No Doves Fly Here - December 21, 2011

The next No Doves Fly Here event night will be on December 21, 2011. As always, it's the third Wednesday of the month. In other news, DJs Malediction and Detra Munster have announced the next 1313 Deathrock/Postpunk/Goth Rock night at the Thirsty Camel in San Antonio for Saturday, December 10, 2011.

Next 1313 San Antonio deathrock night will be November 12!

DJs Ely Bat and Detra Munster have just announced the next 1313 deathrock/post-punk/gothic rock night at San Antonio's Thirsty Camel, for Saturday, November 12, 2011. No cover, like before. I (Oliver) went to the October 15 night and it was great. I hope to make it back down to SATX to go to this, too.

No Doves Fly Here, of course, will debut the following Wednesday on Oct 19th, in Austin, TX, at Chain Drive. October looks set to be a great month for fans of purist deathrock, postpunk, and gothic rock in Central Texas. Ely has been a great friend and supporter of No Doves Fly Here, and we're supporters of 1313.

Maybe there's something in the air, or the stars are aligning properly to finally give this type of music the exposure it deserves. More good things to come. :)
